Hi everyone,

I recently came across some critical information regarding strokes that I believe everyone should know. We often think of medical emergencies as something doctors fix, but in the case of a stroke, the "first line of defense" is actually you—the person standing right next to the victim.

Here is why this is so urgent: during a stroke, about 1.9 million neurons (brain cells) die every single minute. Stroke is currently the number one cause of disability worldwide and the second leading cause of death. Whether it is a "clog" (Ischemic stroke) or a "burst" (Hemorrhagic stroke), the rule remains the same: Time is Brain,.

Modern medicine has evolved incredibly. Doctors can now use "chemical drain cleaners" (thrombolysis) to dissolve clots or even mechanically "fish" clots out of the brain using a catheter,. However, these treatments have strict time limits. For example, the chemical treatment is generally only effective if administered within 4.5 hours of the first symptom.

To ensure someone gets help in time, you need to memorize the BE FAST test:

  • B - Balance: Is there a sudden loss of coordination? Does the person look drunk?
  • E - Eyes: Is there blurred vision, double vision, or blindness in one eye?
  • F - Face: Ask them to smile. Does one side droop?
  • A - Arm: Ask them to raise both arms. Does one fall down?
  • S - Speech: Is their speech slurred or strange?
  • T - Time: If you see even one of these signs, call 911 (or your local emergency number) immediately.

Remember, you are the hero of this story. Your awareness and speed are what allow the doctors to save the brain.
