Dr. Erwin Boco starring in Ketamine for Treatment Resistant Depression
With nearly two decades of experience as a board-certified Family Medicine physician, Dr. Erwin Boco brings a deep commitment to whole-person, trauma-informed care and evidence-based innovation. He graduated with honors from the University of Santo Tomas College of Medicine and Surgery (2005) and completed his Family Medicine residency at the University of Texas Health Science Center at Houston (2009), where he served as Chief Resident.
After four years in private practice, Dr. Boco joined The Permanente Medical Group (Kaiser Permanente Northern California) in 2015 as a primary care physician. There, he held multiple leadership roles focused on behavioral health integration, trauma-informed systems, and community advocacy, including:
- Clinic Medical Supervisor (Roseville): Oversaw clinical quality, physician development, and operational performance.
- Regional Director, Northern California Family Medicine CASP (Child Abuse Services and Prevention) Program: Mentored physicians, strengthened multidisciplinary systems of care, collaborated with pediatric CASP leaders, and served as an expert panel reviewer and patient advocate during monthly Placer County child abuse case reviews.
- Program Lead, Intimate Partner & Family Violence Screening and Treatment: Helped the Roseville clinic earn recognition as #1 in Northern California for screening, detection, and treatment rates.
- Program Lead, ARTS (Adverse Childhood Events Screening, Resilience, Trauma-Informed Care, and Social & Behavioral Determinants of Health): Implemented standardized ACEs screening for pediatric and adult populations and trained physicians in trauma-informed clinical practice, advancing resilience-based models of care.
In 2023, recognizing a critical gap in access to effective treatments for complex mental health conditions, Dr. Boco founded ZenKetamine, an integrative treatment center providing evidence-based therapies for treatment-resistant depression, PTSD, anxiety disorders, and chronic pain. He completed advanced fellowship training in ketamine therapeutics through the Integrative Psychiatry Institute and is an active member of the American Society of Ketamine Physicians, Practitioners, and Psychotherapists (ASKP3).
Beyond clinical medicine, Dr. Boco is a lifelong student of yoga, meditation, consciousness, and self-awareness, and he is passionate about integrating mind–body practices with modern neuroscience and whole-person healing.
Dr. Boco’s work bridges conventional primary care with emerging neuroscience-based interventions, trauma-informed approaches, and integrative medicine—expanding options and restoring hope for patients who have not found relief through traditional pathways.
