A New Paradigm in Cardiovascular Disease Management
The endothelial glycocalyx—a delicate, gel-like layer protecting every blood vessel—has emerged as a pivotal player in hypertension, vascular inflammation, and cardiovascular disease progression.
In this 2 credit AMA Category 1 CME lecture, Dr. Kent Crowley will explore how glycocalyx degradation contributes to vascular stiffness and endothelial dysfunction—and how restoring this vital barrier may transform cardiovascular outcomes.
Why the Glycocalyx Matters
The endothelial glycocalyx plays a critical role in regulating vascular tone, nitric oxide signaling, and blood pressure stability—making it essential for cardiovascular health.
When the glycocalyx is compromised by chronic inflammation, hyperglycemia, smoking, or oxidative stress, endothelial function deteriorates. The result: increased vascular permeability, platelet adhesion, and early hypertension and atherosclerosis.
Clinical Relevance:
Emerging research shows that interventions supporting glycocalyx integrity—such as optimizing nitric oxide production, restoring antioxidant balance, and targeting endothelial inflammation—may reverse microvascular damage and improve hypertension control. Understanding this pathway allows clinicians to address cardiovascular disease at its earliest, most reversible stage.
Who is Dr. Kent Crowley?
Kenton Crowley is a Diplomate of the American Academy of Anti-Aging Medicine. He received his Doctor of Pharmacy from University of California, San Francisco (1983) and completed his residency with Kaiser Permanente in Los Angeles, CA.
During his 42 years in practice, he has worked in all areas of pharmacy practice, including primary research at UCI, Dept. of Pediatrics, Division of Child Development, running clinical studies and involved in the development of several drugs (1986-1999); Inventor of two Patents in neuropathic pain and two Patents on a buccal delivery system incorporating cannabis.
He completed his Fellowship in Functional, Genomic, Metabolic and Nutritional Medicine in 2011. Dr. Crowley currently is the Chief Medical Officer for Farm to Farma Inc. in Reno, NV., Palliative Care Consultants in Moreno Valley, CA. and President of Crowley Consultants Inc. in Temecula, CA.
Dr. Kent is an expert in Lifestyle Medicine working with patients & their physicians to optimize Perpetual Health; with the use of evidenced based nutraceuticals (i.e. plasmalogens, BHRT, cannabis, etc.), optimizing the microbiome and cellular metabolism using genomics and addressing excursions from Health in disease state treatment and symptoms management, whether as a primary treatment or complementary to traditional and/or other modalities.
