Drinking 100% Fruit Juice

A recent study suggests that consuming 100% fruit juice will not significantly impact fasting blood glucose, blood insulin, or insulin resistance in healthy individuals as published in the Journal of Nutritional Science.

The results of this study are consistent of that of prior studies which have shown that the consumption of 100% fruit juice is not linked to increasing the risks of the development of type 2 diabetes in healthy people. The results also serve to support a growing evidence that fruit juice has no significant impact on glycemic control.

The results of this study are consistent of that of prior studies which have shown that the consumption of 100% fruit juice is not linked to increasing the risks of the development of type 2 diabetes in healthy people. The results also serve to support a growing evidence that fruit juice has no significant impact on glycemic control.

The study was conducted by analysis of comprehensive data that quantitatively evaluated the correlations between blood glucose control and the consumption of 100% fruit juice. The systematic review involved a meta analysis of 18 randomized controlled trials and assessed the effects of 100% fruit juice that was made from fruits such as berry, apple, grape, citrus, and pomegranate, had on the fasting blood glucose and fasting blood insulin levels, that was used as a biomarker for diabetes risk.

It is estimated by The American Diabetes Association that more than 90% of the 29 million people diagnosed in the USA with diabetes fall into the category of type 2 diabetes, which is a metabolic disorder where the body is not capable of responding to insulin.

US Dietary Guidelines state following a healthy lifestyle includes that of maintaining a healthy eating pattern that should include the consumption of fruits, vegetables, grains, low fat or fat free diary, and a variety of proteins. Following a healthy lifestyle is considered to be the first line of defense for preventing and treating type 2 diabetes. Regular exercise, a healthy diet, and maintaining a healthy weight is recommended.

It is noteworthy that this study did not include people diagnosed with diabetes, the results may not be applied to that population. Individuals with diabetes should also use caution when consuming fructose, which is sugar, as it may raise blood sugar levels, limit amounts and consult healthcare for advice. Fasting blood insulin levels, fasting blood glucose levels, and insulin resistance monitoring are ways of checking for markers in the development of future diabetes contributing to the results found in the healthy test subject.
